Gongs are a percussion instrument and its origin originates from China. By using different gongs you can create a spectrum of sounds which can aid towards healing capabilities. Gongs come in a variety of sizes, styles, and shapes. Since the depths of time, they have a deep psychological meaning attributed to them. Gongs are the oldest and most important instruments used in Sound Healing and as musical instruments when struck which creates resonance.
Many gongs are flat, but some have a central dome. The outside rim of the gong is usually turned down; it is not sharp-edged like a cymbal. Generally, you can think of gongs as having two basic styles:
What are the benefits of Gongs?
The tones of the gongs give off during a gong meditation can be therapeutic for the Mind, Body and soul. The vibrations can bring about healing and restfulness including feeling sleepiness. The gong practice is also sometimes referred to as a “gong bath” because participants are “bathed” in meditation of gong sound waves. The gongs sounds are changed frequently to avoid producing a fixed rhythm. The hearing of the gong during a process can lead to entrainment, a form of beneficially modified brainwave frequencies which can create feelings of relaxation and can aid healing.
